Sapho

From theater to music, combining the vitality of rock with Berber music and the oriental and African influences

Born in Marrakesh to a Moroccan Jewish family, at the age of 18 she settles on her own in Paris. Sapho perfectly embodies the concept of “singer of the world”, with which he enriched the first edition of the Mediterranean Concert.

Sapho begins his Parisian life taking acting lessons and playing the guitar and singing in the streets. Shortly afterwards, a musician friend of the artist convinced her to perform at an audition at a famous musical school, Le Petit Conservatoire de Mireille. As a result, Sapho soon quit his acting studies to focus on music. His first album, “Commment j’m’habille,” a 45 rpm single, appeared in 1975, and his first LP, titled Le Balayeur du Rex, was released in 1977 by the RCA label. Since then his discography has been increasing to 19 titles. The last one, Velours sous la terre, published in 2011.

The race that takes Sapho around the world, does not stop to write also novels and books of possessed. His last two works have been Blanc, a book of poems published by Éditions Bruno Doucey in 2014, and La Chambre turque, published by Éditions Le Castor Astral in 2015.
