Josep Pons

Born in Puig-Reig, he graduated from the Escolania de Montserrat. He has been titular and artistic director of the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España (2003-2012) – currently is the honorary director – and of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (1994-2004). He was founder and artistic director of the Orquestra de Cambra Teatre Lliure (1985-1997) and of the JONC (1993-2001). He collaborates with the orchestras of Paris, National of Denmark, Suisse Romande, of the Hague, Staatskapelle of Dresden, Leipzig, BBC, National of France and Philharmonic of Radio France, Tokyo, Rotterdam and Stockholm, among others.

He has registered more than twenty titles for Harmonia Mundi France and ten for DG. In 1999 he received the National Music Prize and the 2007/08 season the Premier de la Crítica dels Amcis de l’opera del Liceu, by the direction of Diari d’un desaparegut (L. Janáček) and El castell de Barbalava (B. Bartók).

He made his debut in the Grean Teatre del Liceu with El amor brujo (1993/94) and there he has directed many other titles, such as Król Roger (2009/10), Goethe’s Faust Scenes (2011/12). Since 2012 he is the titular director of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
