Cultural activist and with a style that moves between the opera and the folk, Maria Farantoúri is in the nucleus of the rebirth of the Greek music.

Maria Farantoúri is a singer of international renown and recognized as the ideal interpreter of the compositions of Mikis Theodorákis and Manos Hadzithakis.

Farantoúri played a very active role in the revival movement of Greek music. His profound contralto voice, his wide melodic range, his fine sensitivity and a natural instinct for lyrical and dramatic expression, make up the personality of his art.

Widely recognized by the international media, The Guardian wrote about her: “He is unique, his voice is a gift from the Gods of Olympus.” Le Monde described it as: “The Joan Baez of the Mediterranean” and The Daily Telegraph as “The Mary Callas of the people”.
